Like many people, it all started with a lock pick set and some YouTube videos. After popping open a few locks, I started to develop a love for the lock. My first efforts at lock collecting were messy. I wanted anything and everything! Didn’t care if the key was original… Didn’t care (or know) if a lock was “hacked to hell.” I quickly realized that I needed a direction – or things would get out of control. Fast. That’s when my father gave me a single Yale lock. My first Yale.
I noticed right away the craftsmanship and quality of the lock I had been given. It was different from the “typical” Locks I was accustomed to picking. I wanted more. After ordering a few more Yale locks on eBay, I started to enjoy them more than any other lock in my collection. I began selling off all my other locks to buy additional Yale locks. The collection slowly grew. One fine day (and to my surprise), my Fiance decided to grab a lock and some picks. A few minutes later, it popped right open. We had both found a hobby we were equally enthusiastic about. After connecting with many people in the lock collecting community, we were presented with the opportunity to purchase a small collection of Yale padlocks. This became the bones of what would become The Whittaker-Kak Yale Collection.
